Title: Partial Downtime
As some of you (notably Ryu746 and LordDragonFang) have realised, the site seems to die for no apparent reason, only to come back after a couple of minutes and be perfectly fine for the rest of the day/night. When I first noticed this, I logged in to start the system back up and did some checking. For some reason, the server itself is shutting down and rebooting, twice a day ~12 hours appart, and it has been since the 10th of November. I have not been able to account for why this is happening. When it happened again, the following day, I put in a support request with the hosting company, and they are at present, still looking into it. They havn't identified the cause of the problem, and have contacted the datacenter to find out what the problem is. They will keep me informed as things progress.

If the problem persists by the 20th of November, I am going to request that I be transferred to a new server.. preferably a newly built one, should there be a fault with the current software running this site. I will make all arrangements to minimise the downtime experienced should this be necessary.

Title: Forum Upgrade
Okay... the spam just doesnt stop... I saw the same bots back here, and on SD within hours of killing them the last time. But the problem isn't limited to our forums. Invision has released an update with an enhanced anti-spam system, and I've applied it. I hope that solves things, if not, I'll take more aggressive measures.

Title: Email System Problems
Recently as most of you know, I sent out an email to let everyone know what had been happening with this site, as well as letting members know how to reset their passwords if they are unable to login since the conversion. I knew there was a problem sending email to at least one member since any email's sent by the forum to them, get bounced back to me with an error message.

Over the past few days, I have gotten a number of these bounced messages sent back to me, I will have to read through the errors later and update this post as to the problems, a quick skim-through has revealed the following:

  • Members with AOL addresses are failing with an odd error, I will have to find out the problem, and see if it can be corrected at my end.
  • Members with AT&T/SBCGlobal addresses are failing, because AT&T/SBCGlobal have mis-identified the internet address of our server, as a source of spam. I will have to contact AT&T and find out why this is the case so it can be corrected.
  • Members with Comcast addresses are failing, because of a domain-name configuration error which our web host will need to correct for me.
  • Members who have expired or old email accounts that no longer work.
I will post a list of members whos email problem cannot be fixed at our end, hopefully someone will know a way to contact them, or they might have an MSN/AIM account so that I can manually update their account with a current working email address.
